Post rock, or rather metalgaze band that is often put into one phrase with Pelican, but the difference is that Russian Circles experiments more with ambient guitarscapes. RC doesn't necessarily build towards a musical explosion in between soft interludes, they thrive on those soft, often tender guitar harmonies that float back and forward on waves of cymbals and percussion, giving the sound a deeply-felt melancholic feel.

Shoegazing, post-rock US indie black metal… got it? The band’s over-arching sounds hems close to the progressive sludge of Neurosis and the melodic intensity of Defeater with swaths of shoegaze guitar work in the likes of My Bloody Valentine. Emotive, hopeful and transcendental/ hymnal, rather than evil and grim, songs are backed by drums that are crisp and steady, blistering guitars that transition to twangy melodies. Feedback makes way to pissed-off black metal. Beauty shifts to ugliness or the other way around. deafheaven is a sonic challenge, a thought-provoking experiment that resonates long after it’s gone.

Odonis Odonis spits out all the sound influences they’ve undergone and gave them their own creative twist. Dead-eyed drum machine beats, snarling howls and brutal guitars are deeply rooted in surf-punk, shoegaze, noise, reverb and lo-fi nastiness. Hard, fast-hitting tunes blast cold metallic guitars in the mix with wailing refrains, sex-craving high-pitched distortion and menacing melodies that hide mighty pop tunes. Odonis Odonis was raised by Big Black, My Bloody Valentine, The Pixies and Black Flag and is now making its own mark.
